The Route 460 over Blackwater Rvier Bridge Rehabilitation Project encompassed bridge and roadway approach improvements along the heavily traveled Route 460 in Isle of Wight County. The primary purpose of this project was to rehabilitate the existing bridge, built in 1987, in order to extend the service life, improve the general condition rating of the superstructure and maintain safety. Additionally appraoch guardrails were installed and minor approach widening in both directions was completed.

Construction began in early winter 2022 and was expected to be completed in the fall of 2022. Work was projected to be performed using staged construction with two-way traffic open.

Benefits 

The primary purpose of this project was to rehabilitate the existing bridge on Route 460 over Blackwater River in Isle of Wight County, built in 1987, in order to extend the service life, improve the general condition rating of the superstructure and maintain safety.

Major Milestones 

The project was advertised for construction in fall 2021, and the $2.87 million contract was awarded to Curtis Contracting, Inc. 

As of Nov. 18, 2022, all lanes on Route 460 (Windsor Boulevard/General Mahone Boulevard) were open to traffic following the on-time completion of a bridge rehabilitation project over the Blackwater River in Isle of Wight County.
