This project replaced the former traffic signal at Route 7 (East Market Street) and Battlefield Parkway with a grade-separated interchange that opened to traffic in June 2021.
Other improvements included:
- Removing the signal at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive and modifying the intersection. The signal was removed in June 2021, with Cardinal Park Drive now in a permanent, right-in/right-out configuration at Route 7.
- Adding auxiliary lanes on eastbound Route 7 from Cardinal Park Drive to the new Battlefield Parkway interchange (opened to traffic in October 2021), and from the Battlefield Parkway interchange to River Creek Parkway/Crosstrail Boulevard (opened to traffic in June 2021).
- Constructing a shared-use path along northbound Battlefield Parkway and a sidewalk along southbound Battlefield Parkway. The shared-use path and sidewalk opened in November 2021.
- Adding a second left turn lane from southbound Battlefield Parkway to Fort Evans Road, and a second left turn lane from northbound River Creek Parkway to Fort Evans Road. The turn lanes opened to traffic in July 2020.
