Please note: Drivers should be aware the weight limit of the bridge is now posted at 20 tons.

This project is repairing the southbound Route 1 bridge over the 395 Express Lanes, northbound I-395 and northbound Route 110.

The repairs are being done in two phases and include retrofitting and spot painting structural steel, and replacing the catcher beam system and strip seal at the joint. Phase 1 began in July 2022 and is scheduled for completion later this summer, with Phase 2 scheduled to begin in spring 2023.

During Phase 1, both southbound Route 1 lanes along the bridge will remain open at all times. All work will be done at night and some overnight lane closures may be scheduled in the area of the bridge along the northbound and southbound 395 Express Lanes, and the northbound I-395 general purpose lanes.

The bridge was originally built in 1976 and rehabilitated in 1999. The bridge averages 23,000 vehicles a day based on 2019 data.

This project is financed with federal and state funding. Estimated project costs continue to be developed.
