Recently Completed: I-95 Bridge Replacement over the Meherrin River

Cost and schedule ►

This project demolished, removed and replaced the existing two bridges over the Meherrin River on I-95 north and south. It included the realignment of the south bridge and installation of storm water facilities.

Construction began in January 2016 and was completed in 2019. Crews first built a new southbound bridge next to the existing southbound bridge, shifted southbound traffic to the new bridge, and allowed northbound traffic to use the old southbound bridge until a new bridge was built in its place and then demolished the old southbound bridge.

Benefits

New I-95 north and south bridges over the Meherrin River replaced existing infrastructures.

Major Milestones

Traffic was shifted onto the newly built northbound I-95 bridge in December 2018.
